Are Hamiltonian Flows Geodesic Flows?

When a Hamiltonian system has a \Kinetic + Potential" structure, the resulting ow is locally a geodesic ow. But there may be singularities of the geodesic structure, so the local structure does not always imply that the ow is globally a geodesic ow. In order for a ow to be a geodesic ow, the underlying manifold must have the structure of a unit tangent bundle. We develop homological conditions ...

Renormalization of Multidimensional Hamiltonian Flows

We construct a renormalization operator acting on the space of analytic Hamiltonians defined on T T, d ≥ 2, based on the multidimensional continued fractions algorithm developed by the authors in [6]. We show convergence of orbits of the operator around integrable Hamiltonians satisfying a non-degeneracy condition. This in turn yields a new proof of a KAM-type theorem on the stability of diopha...

Hamiltonian flows, cotangent lifts, and momentum maps

Let (M,ω) and (N, η) be symplectic manifolds. A symplectomorphism F : M → N is a diffeomorphism such that ω = F ∗η. Recall that for x ∈ M and v1, v2 ∈ TxM , (F η)x(v1, v2) = ηF (x)((TxF )v1, (TxF )v2); TxF : TxM → TF (x)N . (A tangent vector at x ∈ M is pushed forward to a tangent vector at F (x) ∈ N , while a differential 2-form on N is pulled back to a differential 2-form on M .) In these not...

Hamiltonian spaces for Manin pairs over manifolds

We introduce the notion of Hamiltonian spaces for Manin pairs over manifolds, using the so-called generalized Dirac structures. As an example, we describe Hamiltonian spaces of a quasi-Lie bialgebroid using this general framework. We also discuss reduction of Hamiltonian spaces of this general type.

Characterizing forbidden pairs for hamiltonian properties 1

In this paper we characterize those pairs of forbidden subgraphs sufficient to imply various hamiltonian type properties in graphs. In particular, we find all forbidden pairs sufficient, along with a minor connectivity condition, to imply a graph is traceable, hamiltonian, pancyclic, panconnected or cycle extendable. We also consider the case of hamiltonian-connected graphs and present a result...
